With the winter season comes cold & flu season. With chilly temperatures and rainy weather, getting sick is the last thing we need. Take preventive measures and fight the flu! Check out these tips to stay virus-free all season long.
Take preventive measures.
Taking good care of yourself includes eating right and drinking lots of water. Get adequate amounts sleep and resolve to stress less too. Staying healthy keeps your body happy; and a happy body has a healthy immune system. You'll be better able to fight of all sorts of pathogens all year long.
Clean hands are healthy hands.
Wash your hands often, especially during cold and flu season. You touch so many surfaces all day long from phones, to doorknobs, to keyboards, and sink faucets. Touching surfaces that other people have touched will increase your risk of picking up a virus. Washing your hands can significantly reduce the spread of germs. Make sure to use warm, soapy water and wash vigorously. Make sure to get between your fingers and under your nails. Running short on soap and water? You can use hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol content instead.
Avoid the crowds.
Confined spaces are a perfect storm for spreading the flu virus. A simple cough or sneeze can spray the virus in droplets that can reach as far as six feet away. Always cover your cough€”with the inside of your elbow€”and be sure to stay away from infected people.
Get vaccinated.
If you haven't gotten one already, be sure to get a flu shot. It's the best way to prevent against the flu. Health officials recommend that everyone get a flu shot, unless you have a health constraint that prevents you from doing so. Check with your doctor to find out what's best for your health.
