Your Grilling Guide For The Coming Holiday Have you made plans for Labor Day yet? If so, odds are high they involve a grill in some form or another. After all, what better way to celebrate a day off work than by relaxing outdoors and grilling up a delicious meal to enjoy with friends and family? Before you fire up your barbecue, read through these grilling safety tips so you do not end up laboring to put out a fire this Labor Day.
  • Prepare A Place: One of the best things you can do for grill safety is use it in the right place. You should never grill indoors and should always use your grill at least 10 feet from your house. Clear away decorations, umbrellas, and dry foliage from your grill's area. Double check that there are no combustible materials nearby before your light it up.
  • Look For Leaks: Gas leaking out of your grill can be dangerous. Fortunately, checking for leaks is easy. Make a solution of half dish soap, half water and rub it over your grill's connections and hoses. Turn the gas on and look for any bubbles that form. Any areas with bubbling are leaking and need to be repaired.
  • Cook Carefully: Many types of meat will drip fat into the grill's flames as they cook, and too much of this can cause a major flare-up. Avoid overloading your grill with food, instead spacing food out and watching it closely as it cooks. As an added benefit, this will ensure nothing gets burned!
You will be able to grill stress-free this Labor Day if you know that your homeowners insurance offers enough protection for your home should a fire break out.
