How Off-Road Driving Impacts Your Auto Insurance Policy

    By Weeks And Associates | Auto Insurance | 0 comment | 10 February, 2022 | 0

Automobiles are unique assets. You have the freedom to travel all over the country exploring new areas. While you plan your next adventure, it’s important to look over your policy. Regardless of the type of vehicle that you have, you can drive on paved streets, as well as mud and dirt off-road areas. While you may enjoy off-road driving, your insurers are likely not as enthusiastic. In many cases, your claim will be denied if you are involved in an off-road accident. Here’s a look at how off-road driving may impact your auto insurance.

    • Look Over Your Policy Document Carefully

Most auto insurance policies exclude off-road driving, and insurance carriers generally believe that off-road terrain is not equipped for automobiles. Every time you head off-road, you are essentially driving uninsured. It’s possible that you may be able to find a policy that provides limited coverage, but these policies are very rare.

In severe cases, an insurer may drop your policy once they find out that you are regularly driving on dirt tracks, mountain roads, or any routes not meant for cars. Avoid driving off-road unless you have the proper coverage.

    • Choosing a Vehicle

Some vehicles cost more to insure than others. This also applies when looking at off-road vehicles. Coverage for your luxury car on dirt roads may be expensive, while coverage for a more traditional vehicle won’t cost as much. Consider shopping around for a new off-road vehicle so that you will have access to enhanced safety features.

Try to keep your rates as cheap as possible so that you can enjoy driving with the financial security that you are covered if something goes wrong. There’s a chance you can qualify for a discount if your vehicle is an older model, has low mileage, and you have a safe driving record.

    • Special Coverage

While traditional auto insurance policies generally don’t include off-road coverage, there are other policies to consider. Check with your insurer to see if you can get special coverage for your off-road vehicle. Collision coverage is important, as driving your vehicle off-road exposes you to hitting rocks, fences, trees, and other types of debris that could cause serious damage to your vehicle.

Look for a policy that includes off-road bodily injury protection. Driving off-road is a high-risk endeavor, so ensure you have coverage that protects you if you accidentally hit someone. Property damage coverage should also be included in the policy. Property damage coverage takes care of the repairs if your vehicle hits someone’s property.

Before you plan to explore a dirt trail in your vehicle, make sure that you are covered. Driving your vehicle off-road without the proper protection may lead to disaster if you don’t have insurance. If you have any questions about off-road auto insurance, contact our insurance experts at Weeks & Associates Insurance Services, and we will assist you.
