Ensuring Your Roof Is In Perfect Condition

In order for a home to survive through the varying perils and circumstances it faces during a lifetime, it is imperative that you conduct some basic home maintenance tasks. Failure to provide your home with tender love and care can not only leave you with expensive repair costs down the road, but it will also shorten the longevity of your dream home. One area of your home that you simply cannot afford to neglect is your roof. We have gathered a list of roof maintenance tips for homeowners so that you can protect one of the most important parts of your home:

    • Start by conquering any debris that has accumulated during the cooler months. This includes leaves, dirt, twigs, and anything else that has collected on your roof. By clearing all debris now, you can avoid clogged gutters and the growth of algae.
    • Speaking of algae, did you know that you can place zinc strips along your roof that will actually prevent the growth of algae and moss? These strips wash the chemical down your roof, cleansing it once the rain falls. If you notice algae buildup is already taking place, purchase a roof algae specific cleaning product from your local home improvement store.
    • Wear and tear is normal, but you must still identify areas where time has done its justice. If you see any missing shingles or stumble across any loose shingles, make sure to contact a professional roofer who can safely fix these problem areas. The last thing you want is for a damaged shingle to leave your home vulnerable to water damage.
    • Speaking of water damage, it is important that you make sure that your downspouts are free of debris. To do this, simply use a hose and push the water through your gutter. If the water flows easily, you are in the clear. If you notice a trickling movement, you may need to use a drain snake to clear the excess debris.
